New DR multimedia house

15-06-2005:

DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) is Denmark’s oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. It was founded in 1925 as a public service organisation.

In 1999 the decision was taken to relocate the 12 DR sites in Copenhagen to new facilities in Ørestad Nord just outside Copenhagen with the ambition of making the new DR multimedia house in DR BYEN the envy of the world. TV, radio and the Internet will then be under one roof.

Four different architects
Construction activities are divided into 4 segments, which are to be designed by four different architect teams. The house will be a 6-storey building rising above ground level. The project will cover an area the size of four soccer pitches; the area of the building in square metres will correspond to twenty soccer pitches.

Construction activities have commenced and are expected to be completed in 2006, when three thousand DR staff will move into the new house, which has already been given the name DR BYEN.

A Middle Eastern Kasbah
The new DR multimedia house is inspired by the kasbahs of the Middle East. A kasbah is a kind of town within a town, with a mixture of covered squares and streets, shops and workshops. Every quarter has its own identity and personality.

The whole site will be imbued with transparency. It will seem bright, open, and inviting. DR staff will enjoy an inspiring ambience, with creativity apparent from within and without.

Fresh air from Novenco
Novenco provides DR Byen with fresh air. Delivery of the approx. 60 air handling units for the four segments started in 2003 and the last air handling unit is expected to be delivered in Q3 2005. All air handling units are provided with axial flow fans - which is one of the reasons that we got the order. After several tests and measurings our axial flow fans showed the best results as regards sound and energy.

The largest air handling unit (L= 10 m , H= 5 m, W= 3.2 m) is a ZP-180 and -135 on top of each other with a 75 kW motor. The unit will be installed in the concert hall which will seat an audience of 1800 and a choir of 225.

The smallest air handling unit - a ZCF-5 with a 0.75 kW motor (L= 2 m, H= 1 m, W= 1 m) - will be installed in the queen’s box in the concert hall.

The 26,000 m2 concert hall is an amfi-theatrical space with the audience seated on every side of the stage.

Furthermore, we will deliver our jet fan ventilation system for the underground car park below segment 2.
