06-08-2009:
INS Shivalik (the first of three Shivalik class frigates to be built for Indian Navy by Mazagon Dock Ltd. in Mumbai) is now almost ready to be handed over the Indian Navy. Novenco has delivered all the main HVAC equipment for this project, that includes ATUs (Air Treatment Units), HEs (Heat Exchangers/Fan Coils), AFUs (Air Filtration Units) and Cabin Units.
There were a couple of challenges in this project;
Size – as hull and superstructure of the ships were already built. All equipment had to get through doors and hatches with a maximum size of 800 x 600 mm for mounting on board the frigates.
Shock – the equipment had to be tested according to Indian Shock Grade A. This is one of the toughest shock standards used at all (approx. 250G).
To solve this, the project organization in Bergen, Norway worked in close cooperation with the R&D department in Denmark, and also a dedicated project manager in Denmark was appointed to follow up the production. To ensure that the right quality was achieved when installing the equipment on-site, the site manager from India spend five weeks at our factory in Denmark, working alongside our fitters to learn how the equipment was built.
The units were a further development of existing Novenco equipment, but also a lot of new design. The result of this is that Novenco now has a full range of tested Navy equipment.
The feedback from the customer during our last visit to the yard and onboard the ship is that they are very satisfied with the equipment, it is easy to install, easy to commission and runs smoothly with low noise.
Below are some key figures for the ships and for Novenco’s scope of supply.
Novenco supply:
ATU and HE (type ZNA): 75
HE (type ZNB): 111
AFU (type FNA): 30
