East Harbour Project in Reykjavik, Iceland

As member of the Danish-Icelandic consortium Portus Group Henning Larsen Architects won the competition to revitalise the area around the eastern harbour in Reykjavik. The project comprises an 85,000 m² masterplan with the overall objective to improve the connection between the city centre and the harbour.

The project includes a number of significant buildings for cultural and mixed use – a 29,000 m² concert and conference centre, a big five-star hotel and wellness centre, an academy of fine arts, a bank domicile, a cinema, a new shopping street and urban plaza, and a number of residential and commercial buildings along the fjord.

The new Concert Hall and Conference Centre will open in May 2011
Harpa, Reykjavík’s new Concert Hall and Conference Centre will open on May 4, 2011. Designed by the Danish architectural company Henning Larsen Architects, Harpa is to become home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera. It is the most ambitious cultural project in Iceland.

The main concert hall is capable of accommodating up to 1,800 people. A spacious entrance hall is the ideal space for exhibitions, large banquets, and receptions. Additional amenities include boutiques, a viewing balcony, a bar and restaurant with direct views across the harbour, a ground-floor bistro, catering, and underground parking options.

Novenco jet fans will ventilate the underground car park
The underground car park is 17,200 m2 and has 500 parking spaces and will be ventilated with the Novenco car park ventilation system with jet fans. The system consists of 28 AUO-380 jet fans for 300ºC for 2 hours and 7 large axial flow fans type ACN 1250 for 300ºC for 2 hours. Included in this supply are also smoke dampers, CO-sensors, alarm device, and controls panels.

Novenco is also responsible for supervision of installation, commissioning, CFD simulation and technical documentation in Icelandic.
